SCH Back-to-School Music Information
Dear CavMusic Musicians and Families:
Now that we're only days away from the start of the fall semester, I wanted to resend the information I sent earlier in the summer to make sure that everyone receives it. Please take a few minutes to read though this information regarding Communication, Instruments and Materials, Upcoming Performances, Instrumental Music Calendar, and Concert Attire before the beginning of the semester.
Forgive me if you've received this multiple times - I've heard from several folks that they never received the email I sent via Home Access Center on Thursday.
Look for many updates and information from "firstname.lastname@example.org”. This is the email address for the South Carroll Instrumental Music Boosters.
Instruments and Materials
Take a minute to review the instrument/accessory recommendations and requirements for participation in the SCH Instrumental Music Program at https://www.cavmusic.com/instruments-and-accessories?fbclid=IwAR0k8kobV0XDAQP7rdutGqMhweFZ4jtf6EbjN10uPB11M9E5sfPZFcPmJbY. We want to make sure that everyone has the equipment and materials that they need to be successful.
First Performances and Calendar
Band and Honors Wind Ensemble students - We are planning a very special combined performance with the prestigious Maryland Winds. We will rehearse on Sunday, October 2 from 6 - 6:45pm, Monday, October 3 from 7 - 9:30pm and the concert will take place on Tuesday, October 4 at 7:30pm in the SCH auditorium. This is early in the school year and will require a commitment of time and practice, so I wanted to highlight it.
Our first public performance for all students will take place on October 25, 2022 during the school day at Mt. Airy MS. The full performance calendar can be found at: http://shorturl.at/djruX. I highly encourage you to add this dynamic calendar to your computer and/or phone. It can also be found on the cavmusic website I will also send home a paper copy of the calendar with students during the first week of classes.
In order to eliminate the focus on individual student fashion and shift the focus to the music being presented by the students, all instrumental music students must wear uniform concert attire. This policy will ensure that all students have equal access to high-quality, appropriate, concert attire. Every effort has been made to choose concert attire that is affordable, wearable for events other than concerts, comfortable, and flattering on a variety of body types. Please order attire no later than September 16th and have all items ready to wear no later than October 14. Performance attire ordering information can be found at: https://www.cavmusic.com/performance-attirePerformances are formal occasions.
This dress code will be enforced for all public band/orchestra/jazz ensemble performances. Students who are not appropriately dressed will not be allowed to perform. If this dress code presents a hardship, please contact me at your earliest convenience. Questions regarding the dress code should be handled well in advance of the performance. We gladly accept donations of outgrown or no-longer-needed concert attire.
