Instruments and Materials

All students must have appropriate instruments in good working order.  August is a great time to clean your instrument and take it to a local music store for an annual check-up.  If a professional musician hasn’t recently play-tested your instrument, please take it to a local music store for a check-up.

String students must have the correct size instrument with new strings and percussion students musthave the required instruments and sticks/mallets.  This information is available at https://www.cavmusic.com/instruments-and-accessories.

Concert Attire

Our performance attire policy follows the established standard in use by many professional, semi-professional, and amateur ensembles across the world. This dress code is known as “Concert Black”.

As the name suggests, the defining feature of this dress code is that it is all black, without adornment of any kind. Regardless of personal style, gender, religious expression, or other factors, attire is expected to be formal, classy, elegant, modest, and above all, allow for comfort and freedom of movement to allow for the best possible performance.

First Performances and 2026-2027 Calendar

Our first public performance for all students will take place on October 20, 2026 during the school day at Mt. Private Lessons

Many students in the South Carroll High School Instrumental Music program take private lessons.  A private teacher who specializes in teaching the instrument you play will challenge you to be the very best musician you can be and, at the same time, provide support and help you when you need it most.  I have found that students who take private lessons practice more, are more motivated, and are generally much better players than those students who do not study privately.
